Shooting and Police Standoff on Perry Street
According to Erie police, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Perry Street at approximately 5 p.m. Friday after receiving 911 calls reporting gunfire outside a residence.
Witnesses reportedly saw a man firing a handgun outside the property before entering the home. Two women were initially found dead in the street, according to the account of the incident.
As officers responded, the situation developed into a standoff. Erie police and the department’s SWAT team surrounded the residence while officers repeatedly used a loudspeaker to order the man inside to surrender.
Additional gunshots were heard during the standoff, intensifying concerns about the situation inside the home.
Police later entered the residence and discovered more victims in different areas of the property, including children. The suspected gunman was also found dead inside the home.
Authorities said there was no ongoing threat to the public following the incident.
Police Chief Describes Scene as Heartbreaking
Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah described the scene as one of the most difficult and heartbreaking situations officers and investigators had encountered.
“The loss of life is devastating, and the circumstances we are working through are deeply disturbing,” Lorah said.
His statement reflected the scale of the loss and the difficult conditions faced by officers who responded to the shooting and subsequently searched the residence.
Police said responding officers were being offered counseling and support services because of what they encountered at the scene.
Mayor Offers Condolences to Victims’ Families
Erie Mayor Daria Devlin also addressed the community on Friday night, describing the incident as a terrible tragedy and assuring residents that the situation had been contained.
“Our thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and everyone impacted by tonight’s tragedy,” Devlin said.
The mayor’s statement came as police continued their investigation and members of the community confronted news of the deaths.
The shooting has raised painful questions for relatives and residents as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killings.

The Erie County Coroner’s Office and police remained at the Perry Street residence late Friday night, processing the scene and gathering evidence.
Investigators are working to determine the sequence of events that led to the shooting, confirm the identities of all those who died through official procedures, and establish the full circumstances surrounding the suspected murder-suicide.
While family members have identified several of the victims, additional official details about the remaining victims and their relationships to the suspected shooter may emerge as the investigation progresses.
